Under and over in betting

Betting Terminology

One glance at the Over/Under odds board, and you’ll quickly gain a sense of which games are projected to be low- or high-scoring or somewhere in the middle. If you bet on the over, you want to see a good amount of biscuits in the basket. A high-scoring affair that winds up at 6-4 works, but a defensive slugfest of 2-1 does not. Under bettors will be perfectly content with a 3-2 game, but 5-3 would leave them disappointed. Totals betting is also incredibly popular with NBA handicappers.

If you’re a rock star at picking winners but struggle to pin down how they’re going to get there, you might want to stick to moneyline and spread bets. If you’re a game flow wizard who stinks at picking winners, the over/under bet is your friend. Additionally, it works well for recreational bettors who love both teams playing. Are you one of those feel-good types that wants everyone to be happy and score? This shows the spread bet, the moneyline bet, and the over/under bet. Even though it’s on a line with a particular team, it is done strictly for organizational purposes.

The amount you wager should always depend on the size of the betting bank you’ve got to start with, as we’d recommend you start with around 50x your average bet. This means if you’ve got £500 to fund your betting bank for betting on under 2.5 goals, we recommend your bets should be £10. If you’ve got £1,000 then bet £20 each, time, or if you’ve got £2,000 then bet £40 on each bet, etc.

Bettors interested in building mathematical models in particular may enjoy trying to work out how to beat totals. Totals generally have clear inputs that will apply to the model like expected possessions and efficiency. Over/unders can be excellent options for some bettors, but they may not be for everyone.

If you’re betting the under, you need at most a 3-2 or 4-1 game. There are no ties in hockey betting so if regulation ends with the score 3-3, you’re heading for a lost bet. There must be a goal awarded either in overtime or a shootout, and the final score will be 4-3. It’s a November night, and the Arizona Coyotes are playing the Minnesota Wild at Gila River Arena. Some scan the moneyline betting numbers listed, but sharp over/under bettors want to see the totals bet odds for the combined goals between the two teams. In betting, the most popular bets generally are on teams winning games outright.

Let us say that the jets scored 25 and the bulls scored 20, the total is 45. The totals bet, or its more common “over/under” sobriquet, is also used as a casual way to describe how often something might occur in an upcoming event. Friends might mention the over/under for the number of times that a person says a particular word in a speech, or how much time might pass before a certain topic arises. Potential Win is the amount that would be returned to you on a placed wager, prior to settlement or results being known. The potential win is determined based on the odds of the selections, the bet type and the wagered amount. A ‘Parlay’ bet is a bet placed on multiple outcomes all to occur.
